Program Description

The Industrial/Agriculture Mechanics Technology program prepares individuals to operate, repair, and maintain industrial farm equipment, such as tractors, forklifts, steer skids, side by sides, ATVs, generators, boats, and harvesting machines through a combination of classes and hands-on experiences.

Program Goals

  • Provide a safe training facility and a healthy environment for learning
  • Encourage students to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners
  • Establish a working relationship between students and employers that promotes the upgrading of skills for continued advancement in the field

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the Industrial/Agriculture Mechanics Technology Program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Understand and apply preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Apply basic knowledge of fluid-based systems.
  • Demonstrate basic ability to diagnose and repair agricultural/industrial equipment.

Specific Degree Requirements


Students wishing to earn a Technical Degree in Industrial/Agriculture Technology from South Louisiana Community College must:

  • Have a degree program adjusted SLCC cumulative average of 2.0.   ​
  • Have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through SLCC courses.
  • Have earned at least a “C” in each course unless stated by a specific program.
  • Have no more than one-third credit hours in required major courses and no more than 50 percent of credit hours total from non-traditional sources, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), to meet the degree requirements, unless required by a specific program.
  • Have completed at least the number of credits stipulated in the degree program.
