Admissions

South Louisiana Community College has an open admission policy as established by the Louisiana Legislature and approved by the Board of Regents. All students applying to South Louisiana Community College must submit an online application for admission at www.solacc.edu/Admissions. Anyone wishing to apply for admission in person may do so at the main campus or any site of the college.  Applicants will be admitted to the College after all admission requirements have been met.  Some programs may have additional admission requirements based on the requirements of their accrediting bodies.  Admission to the College does not guarantee a seat in any program.

General Admission Requirements

In addition to the online application, applicants to South Louisiana Community College must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 17 years of age or show proof of high school completion or the equivalent.
  • As required by Louisiana R.S. 17:170, all South Louisiana Community College students born after 1956 must show proof of immunization by providing:
    • two separate doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccination,
    • one dose of the tetanus-diphtheria vaccination,
    • two doses of meningococcal conjugate, if the first dose was given before the age of 16.

Some specific programs have additional immunization requirements. The proof of immunization form is available in the Office of Admissions and on the SLCC website.  Forms are to be completed by the student’s physician or other health care provider. Students may claim an exemption for the immunization requirement for medical or personal reasons.  A waiver statement can be signed on the online application for admission or on the proof of immunization form.

  • As required by Louisiana R.S. 17:3151 and the Federal Selective Service Act, male applicants between the age of 18 and 25 must provide proof of registration with Selective Service.  Acceptable documents include a copy of the applicant’s Selective Service registration card or a print out from the Selective Service website (https://www.sss.gov/Home/Verification) indicating the applicant’s registration status. A veteran of the armed forces of the United States may submit a copy of his discharge papers or his discharge certificate instead of the statement of compliance.
  • Some specific programs have additional admission requirements.
