Program Mission

The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Business Administration covers a broad field of business fundamentals like accounting, economics, finance and marketing and teaches both management and leadership skills. Upon successful completion of general education and specific program courses, students will acquire the knowledge and skills to apply management, marketing and accounting concepts to improve operational performance and aid in decision-making skills. With an associate degree in Business Administration, students will have the tools necessary to land an entry-level management position, to pursue further education with a business Bachelor’s degree, or to run a small business.

Program Goals

  • Graduates will possess the necessary skills to use technology effectively to both develop and apply other competencies.
  • Graduates will possess knowledge of the functional areas of accounting, marketing, finance and management.
  • Graduates will possess knowledge of the legal, social, global and economic environments of business.
  • Graduates will possess the ability to communicate effectively.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Graduates will be able to apply basic accounting principles and concepts by completing a simulation of the accounting cycle.
  • Graduates will be able to prepare a business plan.
  • Graduates will be able to demonstrate and apply effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication techniques in a variety of organizational situations.
  • Graduates will be able to critically apply ethical reasoning to business situations.

Specific Degree Requirements


Students wishing to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration from South Louisiana Community College must:

  • Have a degree program adjusted SLCC cumulative average of 2.0.   ​
  • Have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through SLCC courses.
  • Have earned at least a “C” in each course unless stated by a specific program.
  • Have earned two-thirds of credits in degree-required major courses at SLCC and have no more than 50 percent of total degree-required credits from non-traditional sources, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), unless required by a specific program.
  • Have completed at least the number of credits stipulated in the degree program.

Associate of Applied Science Total Credits: 60


Must have a grade of “C” or higher in all courses.

1Students may choose to take ACCT 2103 in the place of ACCT 2101 & 2102. Credit will not be given for both ACCT 2101 and/or ACCT 2102 and ACCT 2103. Students taking ACCT 2103 must take an additional 3 credit GBUS, MCIS, or general education elective to substitute for ACCT 2101.

2Humanities options: HIST, 2XXX ENGL (except ENGL 2045 and 2070), or CMCN (except CMCN 1170, 1270, and 2145)

3Social/Behavioral Science options: Anthropology (ANTH), Criminal Justice(CJUS), Economics (ECON), Geography (GEOG), Political Science (POLI), Psychology (PSYC), or Sociology (SOCI).

4Business options:  GBUS 1060, GBUS 2075, GBUS 2080, MCIS 1010, or MCIS 1030

5Choose from Biology (BIOL), Chemistry (CHEM), Geology (GEOL), Physical Science (PHSC), or Physics (PHYS).

6Elective options:  GBUS 1010, 2075, 2080, MCIS 1010, 1030, Social Science, Natural Science, Humanities, French (FREN), Spanish (SPAN) or SFSE. Electives should be selected with the assistance of an advisor.
