Program Description
The Administrative Professional Studies program prepares students with the skills and knowledge to become effective administrative professionals. The program includes instruction in oral and written business communications, office software applications, accounting principles, and administrative operations and procedures. The business knowledge and office skills gained through this program prepare students to meet the challenges of today’s business environment.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science in Administrative Professional Studies, students will be able to:
- Communicate business information, written or oral, in a clear, concise, well-organized, and professional manner using the latest technologies when appropriate.
- Apply software applications to enhance the efficiency of business functions.
- Demonstrate basic financial math and accounting principles in a business office environment.
- Demonstrate proper administrative operations and procedures for business.
- Demonstrate concepts of professionalism, including professional image, teamwork, soft skills, and customer relations.
Program Goals
- Graduates will understand how to apply the information and skills they have learned in class to workplace situations.
- Graduates will possess the ability to communicate effectively.
- Graduates will be able to use computer application software to perform business tasks.
- Graduates will understand how to present themselves professionally in an office environment.
- Graduates will understand the basic concepts and terminology of business.

Specific Degree Requirements
Students wishing to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administrative Professional Studies from South Louisiana Community College must: - Have a degree program adjusted SoLAcc cumulative average of 2.0.
- Have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through SoLAcc courses.
- Have earned at least a “C” in each course unless stated by a specific program.
- Have no more than forty percent credit hours in required major courses and no more than 50 percent of credit hours total from non-traditional sources, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), to meet the degree requirements, unless required by a specific program.
- Have completed at least the number of credits stipulated in the degree program.

AAS: Administrative Office Specialist Total Degree Credits: 60
A grade of “C” or higher is required in all courses. Office Applications Specialist is awarded after a student has earned a ”C” or higher in the following courses: MCIS1010, MCIS 1030, MCIS 1050. CTS: Administrative Office Specialist is awarded after a student has earned a ”C” or higher in the following courses: ADMN 1100, GBUS 1010, ADMN 2000, MCIS 1010, MCIS 1030, MCIS 1050. |
