Program Description
The mission of the Drafting and Design Technology program is to provide students with technical education and knowledge, training and skills, along with communication skills needed for employment in various professional drafting fields with career advancement opportunities.
Program Goals
- Students acquire and understand the technical education and knowledge needed to transform ideas into paper using basic manual and computer-aided design principles and concepts.
- Students use the training and skills for analyzing and interpreting project information and data to produce precise, accurate drawings.
- Students acquire, understand and apply written and graphic communication skills used in technical drawings.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Drafting and Design Technology, students will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in all training and skills necessary in manual drafting to produce technical drawings in a variety of related professional drafting fields.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in all training and skills necessary in two-dimensional computer-aided drafting to produce technical drawings in a variety of related professional drafting fields.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in all training and skills necessary in three-dimensional computer-aided drafting to produce technical drawings in a variety of related professional drafting fields.
- Demonstrate the appropriate attitudes, behaviors and communication skills as expected in a professional environment through an interview and graduation portfolio.

Specific Degree Requirements
Students wishing to earn an Associates of Applied Science in Drafting and Design Technology from South Louisiana Community College must:
- Have a degree program adjusted SLCC cumulative average of 2.0.
- Have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through SLCC courses.
- Have earned at least a “C” in each course unless stated by a specific program.
- Have no more than forty percent credit hours in required major courses and no more than 50 percent of credit hours total from non-traditional sources, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), to meet the degree requirements, unless required by a specific program.
- Have completed at least the number of credits stipulated in the degree program.
Major Requirements - Total Credit Hours: 45
General Education Requirements - Total Credit Hours: 15
CTS: Engineering Aide Total: 18
AAS: Drafting & Design Technology Total Credits: 60
A grade of “C” or higher is required in all courses.
