Program Description
The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Business Administration covers a broad field of business fundamentals like accounting, economics, finance and marketing and teaches both management and leadership skills. Upon successful completion of general education and specific program courses, students will acquire the knowledge and skills to apply management, marketing and accounting concepts to improve operational performance and aid in decision-making skills. With an associate degree in Business Administration, students will have the tools necessary to land an entry-level management position, to pursue further education with a business Bachelor’s degree, or to run a small business.
Program Goals
- Graduates will possess the necessary skills to use technology effectively to both develop and apply other competencies.
- Graduates will possess knowledge of the functional areas of accounting, marketing, finance, and management.
- Graduates will possess knowledge of the legal, social, global and economic environments of business.
- Graduates will possess the ability to communicate effectively.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration, students will be able to:
- Communicate business information, either written or orally, in a clear, concise, well-organized, and professional manner using the latest technologies when appropriate.
- Apply software applications to enhance the efficiency of business functions.
- Demonstrate analytical skills when applying principles of accounting and economics.
- Evaluate ethical conflicts in business situations.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge in the application of concepts and theories in the functional areas of management, finance, business law, human resources, and marketing.

Specific Degree Requirements
Students wishing to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration from South Louisiana Community College must:
- Have a degree program adjusted SLCC cumulative average of 2.0.
- Have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through SLCC courses.
- Have earned at least a “C” in each course unless stated by a specific program.
- Have no more than one-third credit hours in required major courses and no more than 50 percent of credit hours total from non-traditional sources, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), to meet the degree requirements, unless required by a specific program.
- Have completed at least the number of credits stipulated in the degree program.
GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES
A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses in this block.

A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses in this block.
Elective Courses
A maximum of 6 credits with grades of “D” are permitted for SLCC graduation for the courses in this block. Grades of “C” or higher are recommended if planning to transfer to a 4-year institution.
AAS: Business Administration Total Credits: 60
1ACCT 2103 may be taken as a substitute for ACCT 2101 & 2102. Credit will not be given for both ACCT 2101 and /or ACCT 2102 & ACCT 2103. Students taking ACCT 2103 must take an additional 3 credit elective to substitute for ACCT 2101/2102.
2Econ 2010 will not apply to this degree.
